VI International Festival of Central-Eastern European Music "Eufonie"

From November 2 to December 8, 2024, the VI International Festival of Central-Eastern European Music "Eufonie" will take place. This year, thanks to the partnership between the National Centre for Culture and various artistic institutions, festival concerts under the theme "Echoes and Reverberations" will be held not only in the capital but also in Cracow, Dębica, Lusławice, Lublin, and Katowice.

The inaugurating concert at the ICE Congress Centre in Cracow will feature the VII Symphony "Seven Gates of Jerusalem" by Krzysztof Penderecki. This same piece will be performed on November 24 at the Warsaw Philharmonic and on December 8 in Dębica, the composer's hometown. Another oratorio concert will take place at the Warsaw Philharmonic on November 21, presenting a new rendition of the Passion according to St. Mark by Paweł Mykietyn.

Artists from 12 countries, including world-renowned mezzo-soprano Elīna Garanča, who will debut at the Grand Theatre – National Opera on November 15, will participate in the VI edition. For the first time, the festival program will include staged versions of operas: the premiere of Penderecki's Czarna maska at the Grand Theatre – National Opera, the opera Venceslao, re di Polonia by Antonio Caldara about King Wacław of Poland, and the contemporary Lithuanian opera Have a Good Day! featuring ten cashiers and supermarket sounds. Polish opera star Iwona Sobotka will perform as a soloist during the concert on November 23, accompanied by the Symphony Orchestra of the Philharmonic under the baton of Michał Klauza, performing works by Karol Szymanowski.

The concert on November 16, dedicated to Joanna Wnuk-Nazarowa, who celebrated her 75th birthday this year, is titled "Heroines of Polish Music." This event will also delve into the works of Grażyna Bacewicz, Krystyna Moszumańska-Nazar (on the occasion of her 100th birthday this year), and Hanna Kulenty. Kulenty's piece Mémoire de Mémoire for trumpet, trombone, and string orchestra will be heard in Poland for the first time during "Eufonie." Additionally, a concert will be held on November 30 to celebrate the 70th birthday of Paweł Szymański.

New works by Dobrawa Czocher, commissioned by the National Centre for Culture and inspired by Bach's Cello Suites, will also receive their premieres on November 20.
