Polish Chamber Philharmonic Sopot will perform compositions by Mieczysław Weinberg and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart on April 23, 2016 at the Opera Leśna (Forest Opera) in Sopot.
Over the past few years, Mieczysław Weinberg's works have enjoyed a growing interest. A child prodigy born in Warsaw, he performed his first concert at 10 years of age and two years later he began piano studies with Józef Turczyński at the Warsaw Conservatory. Forced to flee eastward after the outbreak of WWII, Weinberg settled in Moscow and lived there until the end of his life. His output includes 26 symphonies, 7 concertos, 17 string quartets, 19 sonatas, at least 150 songs, 7 operas and 2 ballets. He also composed 65 film and animation scores, as well as musical scores for theatre and radio shows.
