On October 3 at 1:00 PM at the Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio of Polish Radio, Roman Palester’s Music for Two Pianos will be performed for the very first time, in an outstanding rendition by pianists Piotr Sałajczyk and Marek Szlezer, together with the Polish Radio Orchestra in Warsaw, conducted by Michał Dworzyński.
Although one might assume that, 36 years after the composer's death, all of his works are known and have been performed, in the case of Roman Palester's music, there is still more to discover.
This exceptional event is the result of the collaboration of many individuals and institutions, without whose efforts and support it would not have been possible. Among them are: the Music Collection Department of the University of Warsaw Library, the Polish Radio Orchestra in Warsaw, Polish Radio’s Channel 2, and Polish Music Editions (PWM Edition).
Music for Two Pianos was composed in the late 1950s, intended for a premiere during the Warsaw Autumn Festival. However, the plan never came to fruition — at that time, Palester's decision to remain abroad led to his music being banned by state censorship.
And although today, decades later, the piece no longer fits the programmatic focus of the Festival, the organizers have made efforts to ensure that its world premiere takes place “near” the Warsaw Autumn.
Admission free!
We warmly invite you to attend.
