From November 8 to December 6, 2024, the XII International Henryk Mikołaj Górecki Days will take place, organized by the Silesian Philharmonic. This year, the festival's central theme is "Refrain." Just like the composition Refrain – the work of the patron of both the Philharmonic and the Festival – the 2024 edition invites listeners to reflect on the unknown and to take part in events filled with artistic challenges and emotions.
Outstanding artists from Poland and abroad will perform on stage, including conductors Christian Schumann, Stefan Asbury, Yaroslav Shemet, and Maciej Tworek. The soloists will be Martina García García, Marek Szlezer, Ignacy Lisiecki (piano), Piotr Pławner (violin), Łukasz Długosz (flute), Izabela Matuła (soprano), and Adam Kutny (baritone). Not only will the Silesian Philharmonic's ensembles perform, but also the Moravian Symphony Orchestra from Olomouc.
In their interpretations, works by other Polish composers, such as Fryderyk Chopin and Marcel Chyrzyński, will also be presented alongside the works of Henryk Mikołaj Górecki.
Unforgettable experiences and emotions are sure to be brought by two world premieres. On November 15, for the first time, we will hear Dariusz Przybylski's Piano Concerto for Symphony Orchestra, composed on commission from the Silesian Philharmonic as part of the "Composers’ Commissions" program, implemented by the National Institute of Music and Dance. On November 22, the Piano Concerto by Mikołaj Piotr Górecki will have its world premiere.
The event is co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage from the Cultural Promotion Fund, as part of the "Music" program, implemented by the National Institute of Music and Dance. The project is supported by the patronage of the City of Katowice and co-financed by STOART – the Union of Performing Artists.
