On the evening of Saturday, February 22, in the heart of Gdańsk, within the stately interiors of the Artus Court, music lovers will have the opportunity to encounter a phenomenon of Polish culture—the works of Jerzy Wasowski and Jeremii Przybora, the legendary Starsi Panowie. The Polski Chór Kameralny, led by Jan Łukaszewski—one of Europe’s foremost experts in choral music—will present an exceptional concert entitled "Zimy żal…". The program will feature songs by the incomparable duo, rendered in virtuoso a cappella arrangements by Andrzej Borzym.
For nearly seven decades, the songs of the Starsi Panowie have enchanted and amused successive generations of listeners. Their unique charm lies in the unrivaled blend of the purest poetry—poetry that at once moves with its depth and subtle beauty, only to soon after provoke tears of laughter with its sparkling wit and inimitable humor. This is further enhanced by melodies that, in perfect harmony with the lyrics, breathe life into every emotion, every joke, every phrase. Pulsating with diverse rhythms, these songs stand as a testament to the masterful craftsmanship of their creators, Jeremii Przybora and Jerzy Wasowski—undaunted geniuses who transformed these pieces into timeless masterpieces.
Andrzej Borzym, renowned for his exceptional approach to arrangement, has given a new dimension to works that have long been fixtures in the canon of Polish popular music by exploring the richness of choral sounds. This is not merely a concert; it is a very special encounter with the magnificent heritage of Polish culture, now presented in fresh, choral attire.
So, dear Madam, dear Sir, spare my nerves at least a little and join us at the Artus Court to embark on this moving and delightfully amusing musical journey with the Polski Chór Kameralny.
