Photo Report from the Meeting with Rafał Augustyn
The International Festival of Contemporary Music “Warsaw Autumn” has just come to an end. In the incredibly rich program presented over the past week, we had our own modest contribution: a side event organized in cooperation with Polish Music Publishers (PWM) – the promotion of a book about Tadeusz Baird, recently published in the Little Monographs series, authored by Rafał Augustyn. The event took place on September 21 at the headquarters of the Polish Composers’ Union.
Rafał Augustyn was the main guest – a composer, literary scholar, author of texts on music and, more broadly, on culture. His major two-volume work, titled Lectures on Culture, was published in 2021 by Universitas.
The conversation with Rafał Augustyn was led by Barbara Literska – a music theorist and musicologist from the University of Zielona Góra, a researcher of Tadeusz Baird’s life and work, and the author of, among others, two extensive studies: Tadeusz Baird. The Composer, His Work, and Reception (over 750 pages, published by the University of Zielona Góra Publishing House, 2012) and Tadeusz Baird. The Composer, His Work, and Its Reception (Peter Lang, Eastern European Studies in Musicology, Volume 17, 2020).
It was a meeting of two experts – a clash of two methods, two perspectives on the relatively short but very creative life of one of the initiators (as is commonly accepted) of the “Warsaw Autumn.” It was also a pleasant gathering, albeit a bit rushed – as is often the case during “Autumn” – squeezed in between other events to make it to the next concert on time.
We invite you to view the photo report. The photos were taken by Maciej Borowski. There is also... a little mystery. A certain detail, something important. Something that... isn’t there yet. We encourage the brave ones who want to guess what it might be to contact the ZKP Scientific Library at:
