Witold Lutosławski in photographs from the Polish Music Information Centre
Over 200 photographs of Witold Lutosławski on POLMIC website!
The presented photos come from various periods – the oldest from 1946, and the newest (already in color) from 1993. The composer has been immortalized during various events organized by the Polish Composers' Union – as a conductor of his compositions at the "Warsaw Autumn" festival (including with Krystian Zimerman), an audience member at festival concerts, or simply a colleague and friend of many outstanding artists during backstage meetings. Among the latter, the most valuable images include photographs of Witold Lutosławski with Andrzej Panufnik, Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, Krzysztof Penderecki, Michał Bristiger, Andrzej Dobrowolski, Mieczysław Tomaszewski, as well as Nadia Boulanger, John Carter, and Olivier Messiaen.
Some of the photos made available in the digital gallery also come from the private collections of photographers, especially Andrzej Zborski, who repeatedly visited Witold Lutosławski's home (resulting in series of portraits in 1960, 1961, 1966, and 1972) and at a meeting of the International Society for Contemporary Music in January 1968, which took place, among other places, in the library of the Polish Composers' Union (i.e., the current seat of the Polish Music Information Centre).
