The Cracow 2Act Foundation, along with project partners - Capella Cracoviensis and the ZAiKS Authors' Association - invites composers to participate in the fourth edition of the International Composition Competition "Art and Violence." The competition is open to composers of all nationalities, with no age restrictions. There is no fee for entering the competition. The deadline for submitting applications is April 15, 2025.
This year, participants will be tasked with composing a work for solo pedal harp, inspired by the idea of reflecting various forms of violence in art.
The jury, consisting of Anna Zawadzka-Gołosz, Zofia Dowgiałło-Zych, and Olga Hans, will evaluate the submitted scores, with the results to be announced on May 8.
As emphasized by the organizers, "In a world full of tensions and changes, we believe in the power of music – its ability to provoke questions, stir emotions, and inspire action. We are seeking compositions that not only push the boundaries of contemporary music but also carry a deeper message, engaging with the theme in a personal, innovative, and moving way. Take up the challenge. Let your music speak!"
Composers will receive two main prizes:
The date of the official premiere of the winning composition will be set after the results of the competition are announced. The concert program will also feature works by composers recognized by the jury and compositions from the global repertoire of 20th and 21st-century music.
