The Advent concert of the Silesian Chamber Orchestra on 12 December 2025 at 7:00 p.m. at the Silesian Philharmonic is an evening full of subtle sounds, winter contemplation, and musical brilliance. Together with the ensemble led by Radosław Droń, harpist Carlos Peña Montoya from Costa Rica will perform.
The programme includes works associated with the Christmas season. The first part will be devoted to Baroque music. The audience will hear the Concerto grosso “Christmas Concerto” by Giuseppe Torelli, the Concerto grosso op. 3 No. 12 “Con una pastorale per il Santissimo Natale” by Francesco Manfredini, and the Concerto in C major RV 93 by Antonio Vivaldi—one of the concertos most frequently performed by harpists in transcription, originally written for lute.
The soloist will also perform Danses pour harpe chromatique by Claude Debussy—a piece written in 1904 on commission from the Pleyel company to promote the then-innovative chromatic harp.
The harp will also be featured in the Adagietto from Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 for strings and harp. The work gained enormous popularity as an independent piece after it was used in Luchino Visconti’s film Death in Venice.
The evening will conclude with the Waltz from Serenade op. 2 by Mieczysław Karłowicz.
