Competition for the position of Director of the Warsaw Philharmonic
The Minister of Culture and National Heritage, by decision of December 30, 2024, announces a competition for the position of Director of the National Philharmonic in Warsaw. The deadline for submitting documents is February 14, 2025.
The competition procedure is expected to conclude within 90 days from the final date for submitting applications.
Candidates must meet the following requirements:
1. Higher education (Master's degree);
2. Professional experience:
a. A minimum of 5 years of work experience in cultural institutions, non-governmental organizations, or other entities operating in the field of culture;
b. A minimum of 3 years of work experience in a managerial or independent position in public sector entities operating in the field of culture;
c. A minimum of 3 years of managing a team of at least 30 people;
3. Proficiency in English at a level enabling business communication in the institution's field of activity (fluent level);
4. Knowledge of issues, regulations, and laws related to the operation and financing of cultural institutions, including the Act on Organizing and Conducting Cultural Activities (Journal of Laws 2024, item 87), the Act on Public Finances (Journal of Laws 2024, item 1530, as amended), the Labor Code (Journal of Laws 2023, item 1465), and the Public Procurement Law (Journal of Laws 2024, item 1320, as amended);
5. Health condition allowing for work in a managerial position;
6. Full public rights and full legal capacity, no criminal record for intentional offenses prosecuted by public accusation or intentional fiscal crimes;
7. Not subject to a ban on holding positions related to the management of public funds as stated in Article 31, paragraph 1, point 4 of the Act on Liability for Breaching Public Finance Discipline (Journal of Laws 2024, item 104), and no ongoing proceedings against the candidate regarding breaches of public finance discipline;
8. For foreign nationals or Polish citizens residing permanently abroad: proficiency in Polish enabling fluent communication, certified in accordance with the Act of October 7, 1999, on the Polish Language (Journal of Laws 2024, item 1556, as amended);
9. Submission of the required set of documents within the specified deadline, including a list of all documents submitted by the candidate.
Additional preference will be given to candidates who meet the following criteria:
1. Experience and knowledge of working in public artistic institutions and in an international environment;
2. A minimum of 3 years of experience in managing a team of at least 50 people;
3. Knowledge of Polish cultural heritage, especially the history of music and musical culture, as well as music in the context of social-cultural situations and other arts;
4. Education in a field related to the statutory activity of the Philharmonic (graduated in musicology, music, or other artistic fields);
5. Education in management (completed studies in management, marketing, economics, administration, law);
6. Knowledge and experience in securing financial resources and building strategic partnerships, as well as the ability to plan activities within a budget;
7. Artistic, scientific, or journalistic achievements in a field related to the Philharmonic’s statutory activities;
8. Documented experience in implementing cultural projects and collaborating at the national or international level;
9. Ability to critically evaluate diverse cultural phenomena, especially in music;
10. Highly developed interpersonal skills, including communication, conflict resolution, and crisis management;
11. Analytical skills and strategic thinking, high qualifications in time management, stress management, and handling workplace pressure;
12. Postgraduate studies, certified training, or courses in team/finance/project management or other areas related to organizational leadership, including conflict resolution, communication, compromise building, anti-mobbing measures, decision-making, etc.;
13. Knowledge of foreign languages (besides the mandatory English language), at least at the B2 level, enabling business communication in the institution’s area of activity;
14. The candidate may submit additional documents confirming their qualifications for the position of director (opinions, references);
15. Familiarity with the digital work environment.
