On November 8, 2024, the NFM space will be filled with the sounds of some of the greatest works by Polish composers of the twentieth century. The musicians of the NFM Leopoldinum Orchestra, conducted by Alexander Sitkovetsky, will open the concert with Wojciech Kilar's Orawa, inspired by Highland folklore, followed by Grażyna Bacewicz's famous Concerto for String Orchestra and Paweł Klecki's Sinfonietta in E minor, Op. 7.
Orawa concludes Kilar's series of "Tatra" compositions (including Krzesany, Kościelec, and Siwa mgła), which are unified by the artist's fascination with Highland music. It is one of the most renowned compositions by the Polish creator. Among Bacewicz's most significant works is the Concerto for String Orchestra, hailed as her "opus magnum." The first published work by Paweł Klecki was the Sinfonietta in E minor, presenting the young conductor and composer's thoughtfully crafted composition, which will be performed last.
The concert will begin with Chopin's Barkarola in F-sharp major, performed by the young pianist Daniel Colonna-Kasjan, as part of the "NFM Promotes" program, which supports young artists from Lower Silesia.
This program is part of the celebrations marking the tenth anniversary of the National Forum of Music.
