Finissage of the interdisciplinary project "ELEKTRAlicja" in Katowice

On December 7, 2024, at 6:00 PM, the Tonarium – Laboratory of New Media at the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice will host the closing event of the international project “ELEKTRAlicja” – the artistic residency of flutist Alicja Molitorys. The event will feature a unique program showcasing a wide range of contemporary compositions for flute and electronics, including world and Polish premieres of works created specifically for the soloist. The latest music and technology will be combined with visual storytelling. Admission is free!

The internationally renowned artist, together with composers and acclaimed graphic and multimedia designers Tomasz Strojecki and Piotr Ceglarek, has created an event that transcends the boundaries of a traditional concert.

“ELEKTRAlicja – Finissage”, organized in collaboration with the Soundscape Foundation, is the culmination of the scholarship project “ELEKTRAlicja – Interdisciplinary Development and Modern Sound of the Flute”, carried out within the framework of the "KPO dla Kultury" program.

Each of the presented compositions is distinguished by an innovative approach to combining the acoustic sound of the flute with electronics, offering original soundscapes.

The first piece to be performed will be Rashomon. Scene 1 by Stanisław Bromboszcz, president of the Katowice Branch of ZKP, composed specifically for this occasion. The composer has utilized the capabilities of a multichannel audio system, allowing the flutist to seemingly have a conversation with herself: her acoustic performance intertwines with live-processed sounds and previously recorded samples that have been electronically modified. The concept of the piece is inspired by the film Rashomon directed by Akira Kurosawa.

For the first time in Poland, the compositions Wodnica by Mateusz Ryczek for flute and tape, and ELEKTRAlicja (Φειδιππίδης) by Piotr Grell-Możejka for flute and virtual tape, will be performed.

During her artistic residency, Alicja Molitorys has highlighted the interdisciplinary possibilities of contemporary music, combining innovative sound solutions and visuals to build a modern artistic narrative.
