On October 25, 2024, at 7:00 PM, the Częstochowa Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Paweł Przytocki, will premiere Wojciech Widłak's Cello Concerto, with Adam Klocek as the soloist.
The concerto was commissioned by the Częstochowa Philharmonic through the "Composers' Commissions" program, implemented by the National Institute of Music and Dance.
The composer describes his piece as "an original hybrid form of an instrumental concerto and a symphonic poem (a musical ‘narrative’), offering a new perspective on the instrumental concerto as the artist’s subjective expression in the reality of the 21st century. The concerto portrays the idea of conflict, the clash of opposites, the struggle between light and darkness, freedom and oppression (with a reference to the 40th anniversary of the death of Father J. Popiełuszko). It presents the cello as an instrument with many diverse facets of expression."
The program will also feature Symphony No. 3 in D minor by Anton Bruckner.
The event is funded by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund as part of the "Composers' Commissions" program, carried out by the National Institute of Music and Dance.
