The Fryderyk Chopin Institute announces call for papers for the International Musicological Conference "Through the Prism of Chopin: Women, Music, and Social Change in the Long Nineteenth Century," which will take place at the Creative Work House in Radziejowice from December 3-5, 2025. The presentations and discussions will be conducted in English. The deadline for submission of papers is March 31, 2025.
The social changes of the 19th century included class and gender emancipation, and women became active not only in all areas of life but also in the public sphere, including the arts. The goal of the conference is to focus on the 19th-century works and performances by women, the role of their albums and salons, particularly through the prism of the legacy and biography of Fryderyk Chopin – including female composers, pianists, and singers directly or indirectly associated with him. A special topic, apart from music, will be the activities of George Sand.
Please submit proposed titles for presentations and abstracts (up to 1800 characters) to the following email address:
The organizers plan to publish the post-conference materials at their discretion.
Scientific Committee: Halina Goldberg (Indiana University), Jeffrey Kallberg (University of Pennsylvania), Aneta Markuszewska (University of Warsaw), and Kamila Stępień-Kutera (Fryderyk Chopin Institute).
