During the 8th edition of the series “Masters and Their Students”, on 17 December 2025 in the “Florianka” Hall of the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Kraków, works by two Masters—Marek Stachowski and Anna Zawadzka-Gołosz—as well as by their students will be presented. The concert, co-organized by the Academy and the Kraków Branch of the Polish Composers’ Union, will be preceded by a conversation with Anna Zawadzka-Gołosz, who is celebrating her 70th birthday this year. The meeting will be hosted by Małgorzata Janicka-Słysz. Admission is free!
Last year, the outstanding soprano Jolanta Kowalska-Pawlikowska invited former students of Marek Stachowski to compose works to the poetry of Gabriele D’Annunzio, particularly to texts that Stachowski did not use in his composition Madrigali dell’estate. During this year’s Festival of Polish Music, she premiered works by Estera Wityńska, Michał Pawełek, Maciej Jabłoński, Mateusz Bień, Wojciech Widłak, Henryk Jan Botor, and Karol Nepelski. At the concert on 17 December, pieces by Widłak and Botor will be performed again, and there will also be the world premiere of Szczepan Tesarowicz’s composition All’alba for soprano and piano, violin, and cello (2025).
The second part of the concert will feature Girare for percussion and tape by Anna Zawadzka-Gołosz, as well as works by her students, who composed them especially for this occasion and dedicated them to their Master. The world premieres will include Co to się dzieje by Grzegorz Majka, Formy emergentne by Monika Szpyrka, and Azylum per gruppo da camera by Krystian Neścior.
Performers: Jolanta Kowalska-Pawlikowska (soprano), Bartosz Sałdan (percussion), Oriana Masternak (violin), Maria Shetty (viola), Marcin Mączyński (cello), Dominika Grzybacz (piano), Dominika Peszko (piano).
