The latest volume of the English-language magazine "Musicology Today", published by the Institute of Musicology of the University of Warsaw and the Polish Composers' Union, is entirely devoted to the topic of "second circulation" music on the streets of European cities.
Since its inception in the 19th century, musicology, as an academic discipline, has been focused on high culture, represented by the recorded works of the greatest and recognized masters. And yet, music performed outside the philharmonic halls intended for the elite, including music performed on city streets, enjoyed exceptional public interest. The music of the "second circulation" in the open air of European cities is the subject of the latest annual "Musicology Today" (2023).
