The Holy Mass for the Homeland on May 3, 2025, at 10:30 AM in the Cathedral of Christ the King in Katowice will be especially solemn – the Choir of the Silesian Philharmonic, conducted by Jarosław Wolanin, will provide an artistic setting for the liturgy, performing a unique program that combines the tradition of Polish sacred music with contemporary compositions.
The oldest Polish religious hymn – Bogurodzica – will be performed, a piece that has accompanied the most significant moments in the history of our nation for centuries. The reflective character and deep roots in Polish spiritual tradition will also be emphasized by the piece Witaj Jutrzenko by Henryk Mikołaj Górecki – one of his most beautiful Marian hymns.
Later in the liturgy, the choir will perform contemporary works by Polish and international composers: the expressive Alleluja by Piotr Pudełko, the meditative Tota pulchra es Maria by Przemysław Kadłubek, the majestic Magnificat by Marian Garau, and the joyful Regina coeli laetare by Paweł Łukaszewski, based on a medieval Easter text.
