The Department of Musicology of the Institute of Art at the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) and the Polish Composers' Union invite you to a seminar titled "New Sources for the Biography and Work of Józef Koffler," which will take place on November 19, 2024, at 11:00 AM in the Sobieski Hall of the Institute of Art (building at 26 Długa Street in Warsaw). The lecture will be presented by Prof. Iwona Lindstedt and Dr. Michał Piekarski.
An online portal dedicated to the rich activities of Józef Koffler—both his compositional and journalistic work—is currently being created. The authors of the website are musicologists D Iwona Lindstedt, Professor at the University of Warsaw (from the Institute of Musicology, UW), and Dr. Michał Piekarski from the Department of History of Education and Cultural Anthropology at PAN.
During the upcoming meeting, they will discuss the latest research on the life and work of Józef Koffler, which has been ongoing since 2023, and the discovery of valuable source materials in national and international archives and press from 1926–1941. Among other findings, one of Koffler's compositions, previously considered lost, has been rediscovered.
The results of these studies and the current knowledge about the composer will be made available on the new website, with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science, granted under the "Social Responsibility of Science II" program. The website is expected to be launched in March 2025.
