The album Szymanowski Reimagined, released by the Warsaw Philharmonic in January 2024, takes listeners on a fascinating journey through the musical landscapes of Karol Szymanowski, presented in a new, orchestral edition. The outstanding violinist Bartłomiej Nizioł and the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Andrzej Boreyko present transcriptions of selected works by the Polish composer.
The album records some of the most interesting compositions by Karol Szymanowski, representing - as Danuta Gwizdalanka writes in the introductory essay - "three fascinating and at the same time diverse musical worlds of Karol Szymanowski: youthful, full of ecstasy, and two more emotionally restrained, but richer in sound, created almost two decades later. One - woven of subtle sounds, the other - filled with mysterious stories. These pieces were recorded as a "translation" of music created for piano into several dozen instruments of a symphony orchestra. The record includes Etude in B flat minor, Op. 4 No. 3, arranged by Grzegorz Fitelberg from 1942, Myths Op. 30 by Willem Strietman from 1991 and Masques Op. 34 in the symphonic version by Jan Krenz from 1985.
Recording direction, editing and mastering: Andrzej Sasin and Aleksandra Nagórko.
