“Visionaries – Women in Polish Improvised and Experimental Music” – a New Project in Warsaw

Information about the event | Warszawa | 28 June 2025

“Visionaries – Women in Polish Improvised and Experimental Music” is a project dedicated to improvisation, understood not only as a form of artistic expression but also as a tool for communication and change. A series of meetings, workshops, and concerts will take place in Warsaw from June 28 to July 10, 2025. Admission to all events is free, but invitations are required.

The project focuses on dialogue between women artists representing various disciplines: music, dance, performance, and visual arts. Its most compelling format will be improvisation concerts and performances that explore channels of communication at the intersection of media.

The featured performers include Magda Mayas, Marzena Majcher, Zosia Ilnicka, Katarzyna Podpora, Joanna Duda, Anna Kwiatkowska, Paulina Owczarek, Martyna Poznańska, and the Voice Act Quartet: Anna Gadt, Natalia Kordiak, Marta Grzywacz, and Gosia Zagajewska. They will be accompanied by dancers Olga Balińska and Zuzanna Kupidura, as well as visual artists Laura Adel and Sanja Star.

Workshops and discussion panels will focus on analyzing the institutional frameworks of contemporary art and exploring how the art of the future might look if freed from hierarchical models of operation.

Participants in the discussion panel will include Manuela Gretkowska, Aleksandra Przegalińska, and Monika Pasiecznik, who will reflect on the future of women in art and society.

Improvisation workshops will be led by Magda Mayas – pianist and composer specializing in contemporary music, known for redefining the sonic possibilities of the piano for over 25 years – and Olga Szwajgier, acclaimed vocalist.

The curator of the project is pianist and composer Anna Jędrzejewska, supported by Sławek Janicki, double bassist and president of the Mózg Foundation.

The project is organized by the Mózg Foundation – Foundation for Contemporary Music and Interdisciplinary Forms, and funded by the City of Warsaw. Co-organizer: Programme 2 of the Polish Radio
